Agasse - Levrault, An X De La Republique [1801-1802], in-8 (20.3 X 13 cm), full brown morocco with diamond patterns (joints split and wears), spine raised on 5 decorated bands underlined by gilt fillets, 5 compartments decorated with gilt fleurons, 1 compartment gilt lettered, around sides gilt fillet, marbled edges . Next to last edition of this descriptive catalogue written by the French archaeologist Marie Alexandre Lenoir (Paris 1761-1839). Autodidact, he devoted himself to the safeguard of monuments of the past, sculptures and tombs, in particular those of Saint-Denis and Saint-Genevieve. The destruction of the French Revolution is behind the creation of the Museum of French monuments. Thanks to the support of Jean Sylvain Bailly, Alexandre Lenoir asks and makes accept the gathering all object d'art coming from the national properties in this museum. These goods were confiscated by various religious houses and were stored in the same place to avoid their dispersions and destructions. Except baout the binding it is a fine copy.
