(lacks the engraved title page) - 1406 pp. - 14 ff., contemporary full tobacco brown calf (wears on corners) spine raised on 4 double bands, 4 compartments with gilt fleurons, 1 compartment gilt lettered, around sides framing of triple blind stamped fillets, blue edges .
It's the second or perhaps the third edition of these homelies (the title page is missing) published by Bernard Gualterius in Cologne. This work of the Spanish theologist, died in Naples in 1617 had a great repercussion after its publication and was several times republished and increased. Binding with mark of the abbey of St Hubert stamped on the first side. In an oval stamped on first side the "coat of arms" described by Brassine "On a forest grassy terrace, Saint Hubertus with his hunting clothes and the horn attached in shoulder-belt, worships the stag, posed on the sinister side and looking towards the dextral side, with the cross between antler. Behind the Saint there is his sitted dog and his horse; at a peak on the sinister side a dog jumping towards the dextral side. Caption: S. HUBERTI ". Bindings with weapons of this abbey are quite rare, especially those before the fire of the library in 1635. The library was definitively destroyed after the entry of the French revolutionary troops at the end of 18th century. However our specimen does not seem to correspond to the specimens described in Catalogus Librorum Monasterii S. Hubertii in Ardenna. Cft.
