| | A Bruxelles, Et se vend chez N. Alexandre, rue de la Colline section 8 N° 349, s.d.[1803], in-8 (12 X 20.2 cm - 4.7 x 8 inches), 4 ff (title, Avertissement and list of the collections) - 320 pp. + 1 f.(blank), three-quater glazed mauve calf, flat spine nicely decorated with gilt interlacing of foliage, gilt lettering on spine. Very rare work recording all the paintings which were put up for auction in Brussels during the years 1773-1803. On p. 6-8 is the list of the 58 sales including the collections of Count Calemberg, Baron de Heusch de Landwyck, Chevalier de Verhulst, Baron Willebroek, Mesdemoiselles Regaus, de Trez, Sassenus, Baronne Douairiere de Boonem, Baronne de Hemptinnes, l'Avocat Borremans, James Hazard, Baronne de Willebroek, Van Cutshem, Chanoine Wauters, Comte de Cuypers de Reymenam, del Marmol, etc. and the paintings "provenant des Couvens supprimés" (the confiscated paintings from the abolished convents and monasteries). Followed by the list of the more than 4000 paintings with indication of the sale, number in the sale and price fetched at auction. The 'Avertissement' on p. 3 warns that some of the low prices fetched for paintings listed under the major artists, are due to the fact that there were many copies among the paintings put up for auction. The paintings are arranged alphabetically under the names of the painters, among which great names as Albrecht Dürer (10 paintings) Pieter and Jan Brueghel, Antoon Van Dyck (60 paintings), Gerard Dou, François Eisen (20 paintings), Jan van Goyen (35 paintings), Frans Hals (5 paintings), Karel van Mander, Rembrandt (23 paintings), Rubens (137 paintings), Jacob and Salomon van Ruysdael, Jan Steen, Willem van de Velde, etc. Very fine copy in a decorative binding. Cf. Devolder C-1381; 2 copies in NUC, one in the British Library.
