Lovanii, Typis Hieronymi Nempaei, 1670, in-4 (21.7 x 16 cm/8.54 x 6.30 inches), 8 ff. - 498 pp. - 19 ff, 19th century three-quater parchment (some wears), spine raised on 5 bands, sprinkled edges.
Edition of the famous catechism of Hessels given by the Augustinian scientist Jan Van Rivieren (1599 - 1665) in 1670. Jan Hessels (1522 - 1566), professor of theology at the University of Louvain was sent by the Governess Marguerite of Parma by order of Philip II of Spain order to be at last session of the Council of Trente in 1562. He was accompanied by his colleagues Michel de Bay, of Ath and Corneille Jansenius of Hulst. Enriched by a title device and by engraved ornemental letters and tail pieces. Small tear in the fore blank margin of the title page. Cft. Ed.
