KA-NÔ NAO-NOBU, Un oiseau sur une branche - A bird on a branch.

s.l., s.d. (première moitié du 17e siècle - First half of the 17th century), 33.5 X 70.5 cm or 13.19 x 27.76 inches, assembled in kaké-mono 182 X 46 cm or 73.23 x 18.11 inches, the "fitting" (kana-mono hashi) in wood with its two "futaï", which supports the sky (ten) is detached from this last. The sky has in its superior part a tear without loss.The bottom of the earth (chi) has also a tear without loss and is assembled on a "fitting" (kana-mono hashi) of ivory. The borders of the painting are covered with a rich silk stitched with gold wire.
Amazing and delicate painting on silk representing a bird on a branch, works of Ka-nô Nao-nobu (1607-1650). Signature and seal of the artist on the lower right side of the painting. Nao-nobu was accustomed to paint on a wet surface, from where the extreme softness and delicacy of his drawings. His works are relatively rare, because, says one, his probity of artist refused to let to the posterity any composition of which he was not himself satisfied, and he destroyed a great number of it. The landscapes he left are very appreciated. Nao-nobu carried the nicknames of Shu-mé and Ji-Téki-Saï, he sometimes signed his paintings. Some folds in the work which would be restorated. Cfr. V.F.
