- 650 - 1 f. - 240 pp. - 9 ff., 7 ff. - 779 pp. - 8 ff., full contemporary parchment with flaps (second volume very handsome pastiche binding identically the same), spines raised on 4 bands underlined by gilt fillets, around sides gilt filletrs with fleurons on corners framed a large gilt plate with arabesque, blue edges on the first band. Original edition of the chronicle and the genealogy of the counts of Holland and their families by the French historian and poet François Le Petit (Béthune 1546 - 1614 or 1615).The first volume is in its greater part, the translation of the "Divisie-Kroniek", works of the monk Cornelius Aurelius who about 1517 resided at the monastery of Lopsen close to Leiden (Netherlands). This chronicle which goes from the beginning of the world to 1517 is continued in an original and rather impartial way by Jean-François Petit in the second volume. This last author reports in a number of details, the disorders and the wars which took place in the Netherlands since 1556 until the beginning of the 17th century. The two volumes are enriched by two title engravings of Christophe Van Sichem (the second title page probably considered to be useless by the bookbinder misses at our second volume), one author's portrait and 57 portraits of the counts of Holland, governors and governores of the Netherlands, all steel engraved by van Sichem, except for 1 wooden engraving portrait (I, 142), more a heraldic plate presented by heralds (II, 426). Very beautiful copy of great freshness. Cfr. Bibliotheca Belgica, III, L-60; National Bibliography, XI, c.865.
