Galin) and original paperback (sewn) uncut (Ph. de Geslin), 2 ff. - 284 pp., xi - 253 pp. Interesting collecting in first edition of two works which deal with mathematical training of music called "Méloplaste" or "Figurative music". Inspired by the teachings of Jean-Jacques Rousseau and persuaded that traditional methods of teaching music in France were mistaken, the Bordeaux musician Pierre Galin (1786-1821) applied his training in logic and the sciences to a devising a more satisfactory teaching procedure. His pupil, Philippe Geslin, enlarge and fill the shortcomings left by the premature death of his professor died at 38 years. The treatise of Galin is enriched by a frontispiece : A black board marked with lines, but without notes, on which the Master walks a stick finished by a small ball, makes it possible for the pupil to go throught all the scale of sounds. The treatise of Geslin is enriched by 68 plates. Occasional foxings, brownings and waterstains .
