Accompanied by an old man and a child holding a flowers basket, she adorn with flowers the portrait of the ambassador of the United States, Brand Whitlock, put in the upper part of the drawing in a medallion (small scratch) with as background the American flag. A steamer under American flag of "la Commission de secours à la Belgique" is moored alongside where the dockers unload its food supplies This painting is a vibrating patriotic homage to Brand Whitlock (1869-1934), ambassador of the United States in Brussels, who, during the first years of World War I, makes generous efforts to bring assistance to the famished population in particularly with the help of the "American Comitee for Relief in Belgium" .
