[circa 1680], oblong in-8 (25,5 x 19,5 cm or 10.04 x 7.68 inches), contemporary quarter pink morocco (rubbed and lacks the paper covering, partly disbound), spine raised on 3 bands.
Rare serie of 59 baroque designs engravings, original or Dutch copies of the time which are works of the draughtsman and engraver Jean Le Pautre alias Lepautre or Paultre (Paris 1618 - Paris 1682). A pupil of Adam Philippon, Jean Le Pautre was a prolific and influential designer and engraver primarily known for his imaginative and detailed architectural and ornemental designs. He was an extremely versatile and imaginative printmaker, whose oeuvre includes over 1500 plates of various subjects including garden ornaments, vases, chimney pieces, furniture, fountains, wallpaper, ceilings moldings, murals, and chimney-pieces. Le paultre is credited with helping to originate the lavish and flamboyant Louis XIV style, which his widely disseminated prints helped popularize in Europe. During his lifetime, he published several series od decorative engravings, many of which were later reprinted by Jombert in 1751.
