Nice copy of this collection of miscellaneous social, historical, and bibliographical anecdotes, compiled by the Roman author, teacher of rhetoric and Sophist, Claudius Aelianus who was born in Praeneste and lived in Roma from circa A.D. 170 to 235. The works is of particular importance for preserving passages from writings of older authors no longer survive like Ctesias, Herodotus, Pliny, Aristotle and others. Title within a woodcut border, Dedication of J. Vulteius to Jo. Pinciero. Greek text with Latin translation opposite. Some light staining. Owner stamp with initials on title.
