| | Gotha, bei Justus Perthes - Gedrucht in der Steindrucherei von Uckermann in Erfurt, 1820-1821, oblong in-4 (29 x 23 cm. or 11.42 x 9.06 in.), 265 pp., contemporary half tree roan (leather of the joints partly split, wears on corners and on the covering paper), flat spine decorated with gilt fillets, gilt lettered red leather label, red edges. Quite scarce original edition of this book of chorals arranged for organ. It is the work of Michael Gotthardt Fischer (Alach 1764 or 1773 - Erfurt 1829) who has been Kittel's pupil in Erfurt. "His music, particularly his chorals settings (1820-1821), long remained popular. His fusion of melodically oriented choral writings with a free contrapuntal texture proved influential to later organ music" (New Grove). The N.U.C. records only 2 copies in American Libraries. In 1846 after the composer death, a second edition in 2 volumes was published in Erfurt by M.A.G. Ritter who was one of Fischer's pupils. Dedication to the State Minister Freihern von Altenstein. Pencil inscriptions on the first free endpaper. Ancient owner's inscription above the first title page (L. Bonnal). Except some minor defaults annonced to the binding, it is a very nice and fresh copy. See also K. Plesse, Michael Gotthard Fischer und die Musik in Erfurt um 1800.
