[SEGOING (Charles)], Le Grand Armorial Universel.

A Paris, Chez H. Jailliot, s.d. [1679], folio (40 X 25,5 cm), in leaves pierced by three holes on the external left edge, title page, two pages of warning to " the curious about the blazon " and 47 leaves with 150 plates of blazons, later hard-bound port -folio.
Extremely rare proofs of printing which was probably used for the preparation of the 1679 edition of the heraldic work given by Charles Segoing and engraved by P. Nolin. Fourth edition (first in 1654, second in 1660, third in 1663) which normally contains 218 plates, three unumbered leaves (titles and warning) and 4 unumbered leaves of table. In this last edition, each plate is printed on recto of the leave and with large margins. Our copy contains 2 leaves of warning which are not present in the 1679 edition and contains only a part of the plates of this last edition, a title only (identically the same one that the second title of the 1679 edition). Our copy don't have the leaves of table. Our plates are printed coast at coast, in general by four, very freely, without margin between them and with a sometimes anarchistic numbering. The interest of our copy which is most probably unique, concern above all the history of printing in general and the preparation of the 1679 edition in particular. Cfr.
