Antverpiae, Ex Officina Ioannis Gymnici, 1553, in-8, A-Z, Aa-Qq8, contemporary full calf on bevelled wood boards (rebacked and some wears on corners), spine on 4 bands underlined by gilt fillets, dated on the foot of spine, around sides framing of multiple-stamped fillets (fat and thin) crossing at the corners encircling a repeated roll of foliages, medallions and fleurons, red morocco gilt lettered label on spine, remainders of the brass clasps.
Nice edition printed in Antwerp. This dictionary, work of the philologist and printer Robert Estienne (1503-1559) was published for the first time into 1541. "but his compilation deals more completely and systematically with proper names found in ancient literature, with detail and references, and incorporates general geographical information of a kind not to be found in the older book at all" (Armstrong 1956: 90).
